The Metolius Recon is a hinged crash pad that offers a good sized landing zone but with smaller folded dimensions.

Featuring an interesting twist on standard pad design, the Recon bouldering pad is an ideal larger pad for those with smaller vehicles or who frequent crags with longer walk-ins, as the narrow more streamline profile makes it much more stable to carry over longer distances. This is achieved by hinging the pad at three points, to make for a concertina like construction.

As with all Metolius hinged pads, to alleviate the chances of twisting an ankle at the fold points, the hinges dovetail together, whilst the Recon also offers hook and loop hinge covers to further prevent them from being a hazard. With folded dimensions of 106.6 cm x 55.8 cm x 33 cm, the Recon is an ideal larger pad for those with smaller vehicles or who frequent crags with longer walk-ins, as the narrow more streamline profile makes it much more stable to carry over longer distances.

The internal foam construction offers an open cell central layer sandwiched between two layers of closed cell foam, these are then encompassed with a 900d ballistic nylon cover, for high levels of  durability. This is then topped off (on the landing side) with a carpeted logo, on which you can clean your rock shoes before each attempt. The pad also includes an external stash pocket and larger internal pocket (big enough for a pair of shoes and chalk bucket), quality rucksack strap harness and metal buckles.
